San Marino: Nov 2017

What an out-of-the-way place, and that is precisely its beauty. It’s a long windy drive uphill, and in this case, the journey is really the destination; although, San Marino is a mighty fine destination too.

San Marino, the city, is the capital of San Marino, the country.  The capital is all stone buildings and small roads, and very hilly. When you get to the top, either by foot or funicular, there is a great view of the surrounding countryside.

Window shopping is a must here, as well as seeing the fortress.  San Marino, the country, has three peaks, each sprouting a fortress, the Guaita, Cesta, and Montale, which is understandable, with such a small country, they need to secure their borders. Although, there wasn’t any border check that I saw.  Peacetime vibes!
